Interior and Architectural Photography

The most important part of interior photography is making sure everything is looking perfect before the camera is even on the tripod. I always take the time to work through the entire room straightening furniture and generally arranging everything in view to look its best. Similarly architectural photography is often about finding the best angles which minimise distracting street furniture. Mast Photography can be a great asset for this type of work.

Mast Photography / Unmanned Aerial Vehicles - Drone Photography / Manned Aerial Photography

Sometimes you just need to see a little more, and that means getting to an elevated position. The first stage of this is mast photography. It can be done almost anywhere (I have taken photographs at six metres up on one of the busiest streets in Glasgow) and offers an unusual perspective. It is also excellent for interiors of larger buildings. The next stage up is Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or more commonly known as "drones". They offer a birds-eye view of a single building, or even a small estate area. They are fantastic for architectural photography of course, but they can do an awful lot more, and it isn't always flying upwards - a common usage can be to document pipework, stonework etc. on river ways. They are also brilliant for regular inspection work for building maintenance, or for monitoring the condition of listed buildings over time, which may be dangerous or problematic to access in person. I have even found roofing faults and allowed precise scheduling of work without a single person being required to be up on the building prior to the work commencing - a huge cost saving.

UAVs do have their limits however. If you really need to show the bigger picture, manned aircraft are the way to go. This style of photography is great for large infra-structure projects. It is undeniably more costly, but some clients will pull together a number of jobs and in a single afternoon I can have shots taken at multiple locations across the whole of central Scotland.

The major drawback of all forms of aerial photography is weather. Heavy winds and rain will usually stop play. However, when the weather is right, they offer a truly amazing perspective and will capture the attention of your audience.

Fashion, Beauty/Makeup and Editorial Photography

I work with a lot of makeup, hair, beauty and fashion clients to show off their work. Theatrical and comedy promotional imagery is also a key area where distinctive images can really help draw attention and make the difference between printed media being a waste of paper, or leading to a full crowd in the venue. It is important that I discuss goals with every client and make sure images I provide are in line with those goals.

Onvo UK

I have worked with Onvo UK for a number of years now developing imagery for their website case studies. The brief has been consistently to get detailed product imagery, wider imagery that shows the products within the overall site and some overall views of the site to give a feel of the types of developments Onvo supplies. ProRTX Workwear

Livingstone International commissioned me to shoot their 2023 marketing images for their ProRTX workwear brand. Images were shot across two locations over four days. More images can be seen on the prortx.com website.

Elderpark Housing Association

Elderpark Housing Association were redesigning their website and required images for all the page headers, staff portraits, department group photos, images showing their different housing stock and a variety of additional images with which they wished to build a stock library for future use. The Association works over a huge number of areas so I completed the work over a number of days. More images can be seen throughout their website.

Balfour Beatty

I have completed a range of different photos for Balfour Beatty rail / electrical division. Product photography for a customer catalogue was the initial requirement. Other images were taken for training and internal communications purposes. They also required some mast photography showing the scale of one of their production facilities.

Tannco

As a new startup, Tannco came to me as part of their brand development. They initially needed product photography, but also wanted to have a variety of lifestyle images showing their product in use. The overall style had to be consistent so that their social media promotion had a distinctive feel.

Allied Irish Banks Property Division

Allied Irish Banks did significant office refurbishment and their property division wished to get some high quality images to document the final finished projects for internal communications.

Caravan and Motorhome Club

I have worked with the Caravan and Motorhome Club extensively across Scotland photographing a large number of their sites. The main brief is great sunny photos of their sites which look welcoming. I arrange a realistic deadline for images to be returned and try to select the most suitable day based on weather and my availability between other jobs. In addition, they like to have photos of their members enjoying the sites and I handle all the paperwork for releases on the day. Mast photography proves a great asset for this sort of work as it allows the camera to see past caravans to view the whole site and the fantastic views beyond in these wonderful locations. I also try to get a few local viewpoints for each site, to show a small selection of the things you can see within a short drive of the site.
